"May the Fourth be with you" (Star Wars Quotes).
Odds and Ends:
Thank you to all of the children that made me special birthday cards and gave me some of my favorite things. Your thoughtfulness and generosity this year is truly appreciated. I have been blessed with a wonderful 5th grade class...and of course wonderful parents.
Language Arts Confessions:
Vocabulary Unit Practice sheets are assigned each week there is a new unit. They are due on Friday. Quizzes are on Fridays, as well. Hopefully, we will return to Vocabulary next week since it is a scheduled full week of school.
We continue to read our latest novel Walking Two Moons. Children will continue to work on various Literature skills such as figurative language, character traits, point of view, theme, making inferences, and much more. We continue to log signposts. These will help them to figure out the parts of the novel to close read and then understand the importance of that through our anchor questions. Feel free to check out what we will be working on.
Students completed their argument/research papers. They were instructed how to find reliable sources to cite and use as evidence to back up their opinion. They know MLA method and how to create a Works Cited. All notes are in google classroom. I was so impressed with the end result!
Students have begun their last essay of the year....The Expository Essay. They are choosing a person they admire, has inspired, etc. them.....It must be a person in their life - loved one, family member, coach, teacher, friend....All notes and examples are in google classroom.
We have concluding our unit on verbs and have begun adverbs. Children enjoyed diagramming sentences on the interactive SmartBoard. Every word has a job in the sentence, and we worked hard to figure out what it was.
Social Studies Confessions:
We have begun focusing on the Colonization of America. We will soon be entering Revolutionary War times. Again, we are moving from dependent learning to independent learning. Students are reading the text and extrapolating important information into their own notes. We then discuss as a class and in partnerships to make sure we have included everything. Students are enjoying the process.
A project has been assigned. Information has been given to students via paper packet and google classroom. I can't wait to see their creativity!
